Q: What Type of Massage Is Best for Stress, Aches & Relaxation?

15 September 2025

Answered by Charlotte, Norwich’s Trusted Beauty Expert

Question

Hi Charlotte,

It has been suggested to me that I should start having massages to assist with stress, aches, pains and relaxation.
I have looked at the different massages that you offer but I’m not sure which one would be best.
Please can you assist me?

Many thanks,
Paul

Charlotte’s Reply

Morning Paul,

Lovely to hear from you, I hope you’re well.

Absolutely, regular massage can benefit stress in so many ways!

I would recommend you see our massage specialist, Jess. She can tailor everything to you and create a treatment plan based on your needs.

I’d suggest booking a 1-hour appointment with her to start. She’ll talk everything through with you, carry out a full treatment, and help you decide the best approach moving forward.

Would you like me to help make you an appointment?

Charlotte x

Choosing the Right Massage for Stress, Aches & Relaxation

Massage isn’t just a treat, for many of our clients, it’s an essential part of managing stress, physical tension, and overall wellbeing.

But if you’re new to massage or unsure which type to book, it can be confusing. Should you go for a Swedish? A deep tissue? Aromatherapy? Lava shells? What even are these options.

At Charisma Beauty in Norwich, we believe your massage should always be tailored to you. So here’s a helpful guide to choosing the right treatment, plus what to expect when you come in for your first appointment.

Why Massage Helps with Stress, Aches & Tension

Massage therapy works on both a physical and emotional level.

When you’re stressed, your muscles tighten, your breathing shallows, and your nervous system becomes overactive. This can lead to:

  • Back, neck and shoulder tension
  • Headaches
  • Poor sleep
  • Low mood or anxiety

Massage helps by:

  • Releasing tight muscles
  • Improving blood flow
  • Calming the nervous system
  • Encouraging deep, mindful breathing
  • Creating space for proper rest and recovery

Even just one session can make a big difference. But for ongoing stress or tension, regular massage is incredibly beneficial.

Which Type of Massage Is Best for You?

At Charisma, we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all. That’s why we recommend starting with a 1-hour bespoke massage, especially if:

  • You’ve never had a massage before
  • You’re not sure what style will suit you
  • You have a mix of stress, aches and general tightness

You’ll be looked after by a massage specialist, who will:

  • Talk through your stress levels, lifestyle, and any physical discomfort
  • Tailor the pressure to your comfort
  • Combine different massage techniques to suit you best (Swedish, deep tissue, aromatherapy or lava shells)
  • Create a plan if regular sessions would help you longer-term

Your first massage will include time for consultation, treatment, and a moment to breathe deeply and reconnect with yourself.

Should You Have Regular Massages?

If stress or physical discomfort is something you experience regularly, then yes, regular massage can be life-changing.

It’s not about luxury, it’s about looking after your body and your mind.

Many clients have treatment weekly, fortnightly or monthly depending on:

  • Work stress or burnout
  • Muscle pain or posture issues
  • Anxiety or poor sleep
  • Or simply to maintain that “just had a massage” feeling of calm

We can build a bespoke treatment plan to suit your routine and goals, whether you want deep tension release, quiet relaxation, or both.
